Living the Cotswolds dream at home ....

For those who follow me for some time now there's no need to explain my love for England.
Although I've visited a lot of - all beautiful - areas, one of them made an indelible impression on me, the Cotswolds

I already dedicated a blog post to this wonderful part of the country you can read here
How much as I would love a second home in England, sadly this will remain a daydream in present circumstances.
Therefore - and because my visits to England are every time such an inspiration - it makes me want to create a bit of that typical English atmosphere at home.

During our stay in the Cotswolds not only I fell in love with the gorgeous landscape and nature, also with the beautiful cottages and in particularly the paint colour of most of the woodwork.
For example, this (one of many) door I saw in the fairytale village Bibury ....

This was definitely the view I wanted for our home entrance, but had really no idea what kind of colour paint (or brand) it was.
That question, which I shared on my Instagram account was quickly answered by one of my lovely followers (thanks Loraine) which shows again what a lovely community this is.

So the next step was browsing on the Farrow & Ball website in search for the colour Bone, which gives such a calming and neutral tone.
Luckily my husband needed not much convincing (even suggested we should also paint the garage doors!) and not long ago we've said goodbye to our plain white door ....

And I'm so very pleased with the outcome ....

To complete my dream I planted the gorgeous white (David Austin) rose named Glamis Castle of which I can't wait until it climbs around my entrance next year ....

And therefore, for the moment I'm .....

Whatever you do, never stop dreaming.

Have a lovely weekend all!

  1. Anita...I love your new front door. The color is so perfect. It would look good on a seaside home too. I loved seeing your entrance and I think your home feels very much like it could be in the Cotswolds. I am so so thrilled that you planted the Glamis Castle...did you know that is my favorite Austin rose? It is the one I share the most on my instagram. I have had mine for about 12 yrs. We had to transplant it when we moved but it survived and gives me the most abundance of delicate blooms. It is not a fragrant rose but it is a beauty. You will love it so. I think another reason why I like it so much is because it reminds me of the essence of England. Even though I have never actually been. I have only visited through movies. tee hee This is such a beautiful post and your blog banner is gorgeous. xo Kerrie

    1. Hi Kerrie,

That's just no coincedence, planting exactly the same rose as we also share our love for England.
With this story behind it I'm loving it even more! Anita xo

  3. So very beautiful Anita!... I am like you, I LOVE everything about England, although I have never actually been there... I am half English and half French, so would love to visit both places... maybe one day?... I buy every magazine I can get my hands on that is from the U.K. and linger over them for hours... and as you know, I have the beautiful Hogben Robin coffee cup like yours!... so sipping my coffee and reading my UK magazines is so pleasant for me... my sister visited the Cotswolds several years ago and brought me some beautiful treasures... I do have family in London, infact two of my nieces are spending Christmas there... I have a little corner in my bedroom I call my "English corner" where I sit and read, etc. You have inspired me to make my home a bit more of an English cottage~farmhouse feel to it... I love your door and hope your rose clambors all around it!... much love, xoxo... Julie Marie (sweet wild violets on instagram)...
